BECU CEO: 'Our Support for Pride Runs Deep'
Pride Month is a time for celebrating and advocating for LGBTQ+ communities, especially during challenging times.
Pride Month presents fantastic occasions and moments to celebrate and show support for LGBTQ+ communities. When I reflect on the meaning of Pride Month, I'm reminded of all the ways in which people share their individualities and express their authentic selves. It is our responsibility to champion equality and inclusivity for all people.
This month at BECU, I was honored to help raise a Pride flag and applaud the moment with BECU employees and community partners who are either part of LGBTQ+ communities or are allies. The support we have for Pride runs deep, and I am proud of our efforts to help provide inspiration and opportunity for LGBTQ+ people.
Pride Month fosters a sense of belonging and empowers individuals. This anniversary month of the Stonewall Inn protests of 1969 makes me think about Pride as a catalyst for how our nation, communities and families can move forward and honor what is special and unique about each of us. It provides an opportunity to recognize the achievements and contributions of LGBTQ+ individuals throughout history and acknowledge their resilience and the progress made in the pursuit of equality. We continue to welcome and support our LGBTQ+ members and the communities we serve, especially through challenging times.
As a supporter and ally, I see this month as an opportunity to create an environment where we can all live without fear of judgment, discrimination and harm. In doing so, we honor each other. We've made great progress, but much work remains to be done to achieve equality. One way BECU is engaging in that work is by becoming the first credit union member of CU Pride, the national LGBTQ+ association for credit unions, as a Pioneer Ally, its highest level of commitment.
At BECU, we look forward to working together across the financial industry to collaborate with and celebrate the LGBTQ+ community. I look forward to the future with a focus on how we support, celebrate and see each other.
