How long have you been BECU members?

We've both had savings accounts with BECU our entire lives. When we were teenagers, we got our first checking accounts, and as soon as we were old enough, we signed up for our first credit cards with BECU.

What do you love about BECU?

We love that we don't have to pay fees for every little thing. Being with a credit union rather than a bank is very important to us. It feels like BECU cares about us as customers, and they aren't just trying to make a profit off of us. And we LOVE the interactions we've had with our local branch. Whenever we have had issues in the past (like having my purse stolen, stressful stuff), BECU has been nothing but helpful in working with us on getting cards canceled, funds reimbursed and issuing new cards. They have made stressful times so much simpler for us.

What are your goals for 2020?

We have tons of goals for 2020! The number one thing on our list is moving into our first home in February. We have tons of projects planned to get the house ready for our little family. We'll be updating fixtures, flooring, and paint throughout the house. We've been renting a tiny condo for the past few years, so we're super excited to get into a bigger place and make it our own!

We've known each other for 12 years, and we celebrated our fifth dating anniversary this past July by getting engaged! So we're saving up for a wedding in early 2021. Once we move into our new place, we will finally be able to start working on planning. We also want to grow our family more in the next couple of years, so we've been putting money away and beginning to plan for that too - lots of exciting things coming for us.

We're hoping to take a vacation once we have settled into our new place. We were doing an annual trip to Vancouver BC before our daughter, Juniper, was born in December 2017. Now that she's two, we would love to be able to go back and experience it with her.

What is the best piece of financial advice you have ever received?

Never underestimate the importance of an emergency fund. Also, be so careful with your credit! It's so easy to mess up, and a lot harder to fix.
